Clean Eats

What is clean eating? Clean eating is a way of life, the way our ancestors survived, a “diet” rich in whole foods the way nature intended. It’s NOT a diet, it’s a lifestyle, it’s a commitment.  A nutrition label is your bible and the ingredients  are your proverbs. Learning to read a label is a critical part of eating clean, its the difference between selecting a chemical ingredient or a natural ingredient. Chances are if the ingredient is a long word that you cannot pronounce, its not even food, its not even meant for human consumption. Want to know the best part of clean eating for me? Eating all day long, 5-6 small meals a day consisting of lean proteins, organic fruits and vegetables, and complex carbohydrates. The steady intake of clean food keeps your body energized and your metabolism working efficiently throughout the day. Choose organic as much as possible, it’s pretty outrageous that we have to pay extra to have our produce grown without spraying chemicals and for our cows to graze on grass instead of GMO grains. GMO’s will definitely be mentioned frequently throughout this page. Hydrate, hydrate, and hydrate more! H20 is essential for the body, aim for half of your body weight in oz. For instance, if you weigh 120lbs drink 60 oz. Of course you will visit the bathroom frequently, keep those kidneys working to their potential. Consume healthy fats; nuts, avocados, peanut butter, coconut oil. Meats should be hormone-free, antibiotic free, and humanely raised. The same goes for choosing eggs, free range is the best choice.

The hardest part about clean eating is your social life. Parties, birthdays, events, etc. can be a testament of your willpower. This is when meal prep comes in handy, if you know you are going to be tempted at these types of gatherings, bring your own meal or eat ahead of time. Restaurants are accommodating when it comes to special requests, ie; no butter, dressing on the side, no bun, spinach to replace pasta, grilled, and so on. Bring a dish to a family party that everyone will enjoy and you wont be tempted. You would be surprised at how many casseroles there are that become family favorites, try one.

It takes 3 weeks to develop a habit then it just becomes a way of life. So, try now, create healthy habits. You never regret making healthy choices…
